A big part of the project is planning out the canvas frame and the two easels it will sit on during ArtPrize. They both need to be built well while being light enough to be moveable. I’m not a carpenter so some of this becomes more complex than it would to others. I know the dimensions of the canvas (6′ x 12′), so creating a couple of support easels was fairly straight forward. The proof will come later once they need to keep the canvas sturdy! In my concepts below, the two easels use sandbags for support. The top and bottom brackets are made for the six feet in height but can be removed temporarily to paint behind them. The canvas will use corner triangles for support along with some additional supports that I’m still planning. I’ve added two metal handles to the outer frame on the canvas, which will help with moving it. During the hours of ArtPrize, the canvas and easels will be outdoors. During off-hours and overnight, they will be inside the venue (the Hyatt Place hotel). This moving back and forth (plus likely wind!) will test these items but I hope I’ve designed them well enough.
